Cottage Rental Safety Tips For ChildrenA cottage rental can be an excellent place for the family to relax, have fun and get some exercise. However, like with almost every activity, it’s important to stay safe at the cottage. There are many ways for curious children to get themselves in trouble, so it’s important to take a few precautions when staying at a cottage rental with your family.

  • Teach your children water safety
    • Spending time in and around the water is one of the most enjoyable parts about a cottage rental. However, children need to be aware of water safety tips, even if they know how to swim. Make sure someone always supervises children around the water. Kids should also always wear life jackets during boating or any other water activities and they should never go swimming alone.
  • Keep barbecue lighters, matches, etc. away from children
  • Give basic nature advice
    • Let your kids know that they shouldn’t touch any animals they may see, that they shouldn’t eat any plants (or anything else) that they find and that they shouldn’t wander away from the group.
  • Wear sunscreen
    • Nothing makes children more uncomfortable and grumpy than a sunburn. Sunburn’s can also be dangerous, so it’s very important that your children wear sunscreen whenever they are outside. Be sure to reapply it regularly.
  • Footwear is important
    • There are often sharp rocks or other hazards on the beach that children can cut their feet on. Wearing sandals, flip-flops or other summer shoes will keep them safe.

A cottage rental is an excellent place for some family fun. Once your children understand a few rules, they’ll be set for a great time! Enjoy your cottage rental!
