A great outdoor activity is barbecuing. While at the cottage, some people even choose to eat all of their meals from the grill! There’s something about barbecuing that just makes food taste better and cooking more fun. Add that to the fact that you’re outdoors in the sunshine and you’ve got an excellent way to make a meal. We know of a few people that never cook unless it’s on a barbecue!
Here are a few tips to make your barbecue meals even better:
BBQ inspection
It’s always a good idea to take a few minutes to inspect the barbecue before you use it. Make sure that it’s placed on level ground so that it won’t fall over or roll away. Also clear the area around it so that nothing accidentally rolls in your way or falls onto the grill while you’re cooking. If you’re using a gas or propane BBQ, check the tank and any hoses for damage. Make sure they’re connected properly.
Test the BBQ
Nothing is worse than bringing all the food outside and telling everyone that you’re going to grill a big meal only to find that the barbecue doesn’t work. Try it out beforehand to make sure there are no issues. If you’re using a propane or charcoal grill, make sure you have propane or charcoal!
Find Some Recipes
Burgers and hot dogs taste great, but if you really want to impress your guests, throw in some variety. Look online for barbecue recipes or pick up a barbecue cookbook. Everything from vegetables to fish to chicken can be barbecued if you know what you’re doing. You can even barbecue a pizza!
Cook Throughly
Make sure you cook everything evenly and completely. Using a meat thermometer may help.
Clean Up
The easiest way to clean the barbecue is to scrape the grill relatively quickly. If you allow the grease, fat and debris to harden and solidify on the grill, it will be a lot more difficult to clean. Scrape off whatever you can and that’s probably good enough. You don’t need to make the grill sparkle. Just get rid of anything that sticks to it.
Barbecuing will probably be part of any trip to the cottage. Following the tips above will get you even more enjoyment out of your cottage rental!
