Our Tips

for owners and rents
How we startedTipsDiscover Canada
1. Communications is key.

For Property Owners – Make sure you speak to the renters over the phone or in person and not just by email. Make sure they clearly understand what your expectations are such as:
  • When are check-in and check-out dates and times?
  • How much is the security deposit?
  • Ask how many people will be staying.
  • Will they be inviting guest and if so how many?
  • Are the renters planning of bringing any pets?
  • Ask for two personal or professional references with phone numbers..
  • Provide a basic contact so both parties are protected.

For Rents – Ask lots of questions
  • How much is the security deposit and when do you get it back?
  • What form of payment do they accept?
  • Confirm rental dates.
  • When can you arrive?
  • How many visitors are allowed at one time?
  • Ask if you can go look at the property before renting it (this is dependent on your proximity to the rental property).
  • Who should you call if there is a problem with the rental?
  • Confirm all amenities included.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
  • Confirm how much the cottages rent is.
2. Start Early
As most people plan both their summer and winter vacations in advanced so make sure you don't miss out. If you happen to be late in your vacation plans check out our Last Minute Specials, you are bound to find an ideal rental spot there.
For Property Owners
If you want to rent out your cottage for the summer make sure to post it early in the year, such as January or February. Be sure to update your property calendar and any other current information on your property.

For Rents
If you see a property you like with the right date's available contact the owner right away. Most rentals tend to get booked up quickly for high season.
